The National Bank of Tajikistan says the somoni is the only and exclusive means of payment for monetary obligations and settlements in the country. It describes cryptocurrencies as digital assets not regulated by state authorities or the central bank, and says the framework for cryptocurrency, digital-currency, and virtual-asset transactions is under study. In January 2026, the Bank launched an assessment of money-laundering and terrorism-financing risks in virtual-asset transactions to support later regulatory measures. This does not authorise providers or crypto use as payment; verify requirements directly with the National Bank.
