MiCA authorisation, not an earlier virtual-currency licence, is the key check for Estonian services from July 2026.
Tax law permits certain crypto assets acquired through MiCA providers to be treated as financial assets for the investment-account system.
From 1 July, crypto-asset services require MiCA authorisation; the former virtual-currency register is removed.

From 1 July 2026, crypto-asset services in Estonia may be provided only by firms with a MiCA authorisation from Finantsinspektsioon or another EEA authority. The authority said the former virtual-currency-provider licence register would be cancelled on 1 July. Check a provider's current MiCA authorisation and services before using a platform; an earlier virtual-currency licence does not by itself prove current MiCA authorisation.
