The CC token pays for network services and staking on application subnets. The open question is whether public-token value accrues from institutional usage that is deliberately private and permissioned — fee flows inside private subnets do not automatically reach a public token, and that bridge is unproven.
The token is new to public markets with allocation details thinner than for public-chain launches. There is no long unlock history yet, so float analysis matters less than institutional integration milestones — each DTCC-style announcement moves the adoption story more than supply data does.
Network direction sits with Digital Asset and the member institutions running subnets, not with public token holders; token governance exists but is not the primary control plane. This is a design choice, not an oversight — regulated institutions will not put capital markets on a chain whose rules can flip by public vote.

The DTCC — the plumbing of US equities settlement — is preparing a tokenization service on Canton for tokenized US treasuries, equities, and ETFs. For a sector used to pilot announcements, live settlement infrastructure from the central securities depository is the institution signal with the most substance behind it.
