A high-throughput chain using Move, a language designed to make asset bugs harder.

Aptos was founded by engineers from Meta's abandoned Diem project and builds on Move, a language where digital assets are first-class types that cannot be accidentally copied or destroyed. That property removes an entire class of bugs that have cost Solidity protocols enormous sums. The open question is whether better language safety attracts developers when Solidity's tooling and talent pool are so much larger.
Move's safety guarantees are a real technical advantage, not marketing.
Language advantages only matter if developers actually migrate.
Separate incentivised activity from organic demand when reading ecosystem metrics.
Aptos executes transactions in parallel by detecting which ones touch unrelated state and running those simultaneously, rather than forcing a single queue. Move enforces resource semantics at the language level: an asset must be explicitly moved from one place to another and cannot be duplicated, so a whole family of accounting errors becomes impossible to express rather than merely discouraged.
Gas for transactions
Staking to validators
Governance participation in network proposals
APT pays gas and is staked to validators, with staking rewards funded by ongoing emission. Fees are low, so fee-driven demand is modest, and much of the ecosystem activity to date has been supported by foundation incentive programs. Distinguishing organic usage from incentivised usage is the central analytical task with this asset.
Developer ecosystem is far smaller than EVM, limiting tooling, audits and hiring.
Significant token allocations to insiders create ongoing unlock pressure.
Ecosystem activity has leaned heavily on incentive programs.
Competes directly with Sui for the same Move developer pool.
Inflationary staking rewards dilute holders who do not stake.
