Governance Token

Definition
A token that a particular protocol may use to measure, delegate, or assign voting power. Its holder rights, proposal process, quorum, execution, and legal effect are defined by that protocol's contracts and documents, not by the label alone.

Practical Example
Before voting on a protocol proposal, a token holder verifies the official Governor and token addresses, delegates if that protocol requires it, checks the snapshot block, quorum, vote-counting rules, timelock, and whether a multisig or guardian can still cancel or alter execution. They do not infer these rights from the token ticker.
